Under $18: Everyday drinking
Dâo 2012, Quinta das Maias, Portugal red, $17, SAQ # 874925. Interesting Dâo in that it’s made with 40 per cent mencia as opposed to touriga nacional, which normally leads the way in the appellation. Refined tannin, delicate aromatics. Very fresh with a subtle herbal note on the finish. Classy wine that won’t wow you at first, but drinks wonderfully well at the table, as would a basic Bordeaux. Residual sugar: 2 g/L. Serve at 18C. Drink now-2018. Food pairing idea: Pork chops with paprika and herbs.
